Your Village at the Phinney Farmers Market

Phinney logo
We’ll have an informational table at the Phinney Farmers Market tomorrow (Phinney Center Parking lot – 6532 Phinney Ave N), so please drop by to say hello!

Also, if you would like to help out with our table we have 2 shifts available: 3:30 – 5:30 PM and 5:30 – 7:30 PM. (If you can’t commit to a whole shift, no problem…we’d love to have you there just part of the time.) This is an awesome chance to talk to people who might not know about our wonderful village.

We will be there on the 3rd Friday of every month, so if you’re not available tomorrow but would like to help on another day, please let Rebecca know: call 206.789.1217 or email

Hope to see you this Friday!

What YOU Can Do For Our Newsletter

PNA Village Connections newslettersAre you interested in writing, editing, desktop publishing, or even seeing your writing featured on our blog? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

You can help your PNA Village Connections newsletter in any of the following ways:

  • Join us! The newsletter committee meets just four times per year for a planning session. You choose what you’d like to write and/or what tasks you can do. (You’ll need access to a reliable computer and the Internet, as this is the committee’s primary mode of communication.)
  • Suggest ideas or information you’d like to see covered in our newsletter and/or blog.
  • Write! We’re always looking for new topics to cover.
  • Take photos! Take photos of Village events and activities.
  • Help us mail the newsletter. We always can use help folding and preparing the newsletter for mailing.
  • Provide technical help. Two of our prime needs right now are for a person comfortable doing page layout for the printed version of the newsletter (using InDesign, Publisher or Word) as well as a person comfortable preparing the newsletter for email distribution using Vertical Response.

If any of these things sound interesting to you, please contact the Village office at 206-789-1217.

Social Calls

By Diana deParadis

A new option for Members is the Social Call where the Volunteer would offer a reassuring short check-in phone call or enjoy a longer, more sociable, chat. This Social Visit via telephone, email or texting is intended for those who are not as active as they would like to be, or who might feel a bit isolated from social contacts.

An important benefit is that there is total flexibility in choosing what kind of Social Call, the days and times agreed on by both Member and Volunteer. Another benefit is that there is no travel involved and the call can take place within the comfort of home, or if texting or emailing, it can happen anywhere.

A main requirement is that the Member must provide an emergency contact phone number to the Volunteer during the initial call.

This program will officially launch before mid-April and details will be posted in the PNA Village Newsletter and on the Village webpage.

Bradley’s Village

Bradley Rodgers
By Ann Rodgers

Sometimes, it takes a Village to love a dog. In this case, my hearing dog, Bradley, and our Village.

Bradley recently developed serious separation anxiety. The first incident was his clean sweep of my refrigerator. How did he get the door open? How did he manage to pile all the food in a gooey mess? I must admit it was a bit funny. I did not know it was the beginning of separation anxiety syndrome.

Within two weeks, I had a traumatized dog. He stopped at nothing to find me. The moment he thought I might be leaving my apartment, he began a whole series of wild behavior. It was scary and puzzling and oh so sad.

What to do? Enter the “Friends of Bradley” plus my knowledgeable veterinarian and trainer from Dogs for the Deaf (

All listened to my fears as I learned how to help Bradley. Kelly, Donna, Marisa, Judy, Cathy, Duncan, Heidi, Laurel—helpers all. Not only was Bradley in a panic, I was not doing well myself! We had a team from the Village and its volunteers. Dog sitters appeared.

We are both still a work in progress. Bradley has had his first two days of calming medication. He sleeps peacefully. I am the one who is relaxed! I am not surprised that we have a whole group of animal lovers in the Village. Somehow it just fits.
